Music

Music has been a popular focus for many young people at MAP. Some young people come with musical ideas and want to record their lyrics and learn more about music production. Others try out the music software during their MAP taster and realise they can create their own songs quite easily. Like other areas of MAP, no experience is needed – just an interest and willingness to give things a go.

Skills covered

  • Audio recording and editing
  • MIDI sequencing
  • Basic synthesis and drum programming
  • Microphone technique
  • Mixing and effects

Each MAP unit has facilities that allow students to compose, record and edit music in a variety of styles. Many students have produced their own CDs, complete with disc and cover designs. Others have gone on to plan and film music videos to accompany their songs.

Using the trusty MAP iPod, young people can included their tracks in regular MAP exhibitions and also post them here on the MAP website.

Ex-MAP students have progressed to Music Technology programmes at local collages.
