How long does MAP take to finish?
It depends. Some people come to MAP for a short course - maybe a few weeks. Other people come for longer programme. We can talk with you about your situation and make a course that's right for you.
How often do I come to MAP?
MAP is currently two days a week in Oxford and three days a week in Banbury. It’ll be up to you and your worker/s to decide how often you’d like to attend. It’s best to do at least 2 days a week.
Can I just come along myself or do I need a worker to refer me?
You can join MAP by yourself, but it’s usually best to involve someone like your Connexions PA or other worker if you have one.
Will there be loads of people?
No. MAP works in small groups.
Will there be tests/exams?
No.
What if I don’t like it?
Come on a taster day and find out! You’ll have a chance to try things out and decide if you like it.
…but I’m rubbish at drawing/painting/music/etc
Don’t worry – MAP isn’t a talent contest. It’s about trying things out and coming up with ideas. Even if you don’t think you’re good at something, as long as you’re interested in trying it out, you might surprise yourself.
My reading/writing isn’t very good
Not a problem. MAP is mainly practical – so you’ll be doing lots of hands-on stuff and not much writing. Tutors will support you.
Will I get a break?
Yes, you’ll get an hour lunch break and other breaks during the day.
Will I have to work with other people?
Not all the time. You’ll get a chance to do projects by yourself, but group work is an important part of MAP so you will be doing things with other people. Chances are, there will be other people at MAP that you’ll get on well with.
Are there any rules?
You can’t bring weapons, drugs or alcohol to MAP. You need to treat everyone respectfully and think about what you say and how you act. Oh, and try really hard not to be late! That’s about it.
