Visual Arts
Visual Art can mean all kinds of things at MAP. Some students are interested in drawing or painting and can learn new techniques for creating giant images, stencils and prints. Young people have access to a range of materials and facilities, including compressors for spray painting and grafitti art pieces, jewellery-making equipment and materials for sculpture.
Learning to work on a larger scale and experiment with new materials are all part of the challenge for young artists at MAP and often lead to improved confidence in other areas. By trying new approaches and pursuing their own ideas in a supportive environment, young people at MAP often break through barriers to learning and progression.
Special group projects with visiting artists allow MAP students to develop cooperative skills and create work in a team.
Regular MAP exhibitions allow students to show their work to invited audiences and the public. MAP students have also taken part in visual arts projects with partner organisations including Modern Art Oxford and OVADA.
